Satcom Direct, based in Satellite Beach, Florida, has introduced new software called SkyStream that allows customers to achieve higher data rates for real-time communications applications. The technology embedded in the SDR enables customers to bond two to four channels of service of the Inmarsat Swiftbroadband. This provides a larger data pipe to facilitate high-data-rate applications like video conference and streaming video.
SkyStream can deliver speeds of up to 1.4mbps of throughput for aircraft with four-channel systems. The aircraft must be equipped with the SDR, SkyStream software key and SwiftBroadband satellite service. Satcom Direct worked with Cobham Communications to deliver this ability to its customers by deploying additional ground equipment to facilitate the service.
According to Ken Bantoft of Satcom Direct, “People expect their smartphones, tablets and laptops to work on their aircraft just like they would on the ground. Satcom Direct is committed to providing that experience”.
