New converter links carry-on devices to IFE

March 9, 2017 By Aircraft-Completion.com

FDS Avionics has unveiled a new hardware video converter for its Edge Series displays, which is designed to allow auxiliary input and carry-on devices to be connected to the IFE system.

The converter can be used to connect VGA, DisplayPort, DVI, HDMI and composite video sources, providing an HD SDI signal. This allows passengers to plug in their carry-on equipment, which includes HD equipment, projectors, smart devices, cameras, laptops and gaming systems.

The Penta Converter is operated by means of CMS, switch buttons or wirelessly in case the do Capsule is installed. Signals can be transmitted to individual headsets and screens and also to video and audio switching equipment.

The new converter is designed to operate in planes at 28V DC. There are 3 independent converter / scaler inputs on the front of the device and 1 SDI (pass through) input on the back, with LED indicators showing which input has been chosen.
