Boeing has reported more cancellations to orders of its 737 MAX jet as the airworthiness approval lines draws nearer.
The news released on Tuesday [10th November 20’] will be another blow to Boeing following the extensive program of activity to re-engineer critical safety systems and satisfy regulators the aircraft is safe to operate following the grounding of the aircraft some 20 months ago.
Boeing customers cancelled 12 orders for the 737 Max in October and at the time of writing the company has posted no new ones, resulting in 4,275 outstanding orders down from 4,325 last month.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) is its latter stages of concluding its work to provide the 737 MAX airworthiness approval, with a review that will wrap up in the “coming days,” FAA Administrator Steve Dickson said in a statement.
Dickson reported: “Even though we are near the finish line, I will lift the grounding order only after our safety experts are satisfied that the aircraft meets certification standards”.
The process has been expected to finish in mid-November and an order to end the grounding would be followed by pilot training.
Commercial airlines carriers are scheduled to being operating the aircraft at the end of December.
Boeing said it delivered 13 aircraft to customers in October.
