Over 2 years in the making, the aircraft is returned to an undisclosed client
Lufthansa Technik, based in Hamburg, Germany, recently completed the 1st of 3 Boeing 747-8s currently being converted by the company and delivered it back to an undisclosed customer. In a process that lasted more than two years, the project was one of the most complex ever undertaken by Lufthansa Technik.
The long time span to completion was due to the large cabin size of over 4,700 ft² (440 m²) and the requirements on the part of the customer in terms of equipment and quality.
The plane is designed and equipped with the highest quality furniture, fabrics and more than 300 different finishing materials. In addition, every part installed in the aircraft is custom-made and manufactured by hand.
Features include a large conference room, lounge, bedroom and several bathrooms with showers. The cabin management and on-board entertainment system offers the latest technology such as broadband Internet, GSM, WLAN, Live TV and satellite communication.
“The completion of this 747-8 allowed us to demonstrate all of our skills and competencies,” commented Walter Heerdt, who heads the VIP & Executive Jet Solutions division. “It is the most extraordinary aircraft that we have completed to date, featuring an unprecedented high level of elegance. It is only thanks to the many years’ experience, professionalism and passion of our employees that we are able to deliver such unique products to our customers.”
